About Us

LWHS Mission:

Lee Williams High School educates students by providing engaging experiences that build skills for a successful future.

Vision (What will we do to accomplish our Mission?)

We will model what it means to be a Volunteer by supporting the mission of the school, standing behind every student and staff member, encouraging each other, disagreeing professionally, and seeking to understand before being understood.

Values (How we behave in order to reach our vision)

Integrity:  Do the right thing even when no one is watching.

Volunteer:  Be a part of something bigger than yourself. Give relentlessly and selflessly. Do more than what is asked.

Leadership:  Be a role model, set an example, and look out for those around you.

Tradition:  Honor and respect our community history and pride.

A11 In:  Create and participate in a community where everyone is welcome.

Who We Are

At Lee Williams High School, we believe in igniting every student’s future through the 4 A’s: Academics, Arts, Athletics, and Activities. Our goal is to provide a well-rounded education where students can explore their passions, challenge themselves, and prepare for success beyond high school.

In Academics, students have access to a wide range of opportunities designed to inspire growth and achievement. From the Cambridge Program, Summit Academy Early College, and Dual Credit courses to innovative Career & Technical Education (CTE) pathways, students can earn college credit, gain industry certifications, and build real-world skills. For added flexibility, our Flex Academy offers online courses that can be completed on campus or from home, allowing students to personalize their learning journey.

The Arts at LWHS encourage creativity and self-expression, with programs in music, theater, and visual and digital arts that allow students to showcase their talents.

Through Athletics, our student-athletes compete with pride as Volunteers, developing teamwork, discipline, and resilience while building lasting school spirit.

Our wide variety of Activities, clubs, organizations, and student leadership programs, gives every student the chance to connect, contribute, and lead within the school and community.

At Lee Williams High School, we are proud to offer diverse pathways and opportunities, supported by our block schedule and flexible learning options, that empower students to discover their strengths and shape their futures.

At LWHS, the 4 A’s create endless possibilities, and every student has a pathway to success.

Our History

Lee Williams High School has a proud legacy that spans more than a century, deeply rooted in the Kingman community. Our story begins in 1917, when Mohave County Union High School (MCUHS) opened at the corner of Fourth Street and Oak Street, on land that had formerly been the Pioneer Cemetery. In 1936, the MCUHS gymnasium was built; this building was later listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In 1969, MCUHS became known as Kingman High School. On January 18, 1973, the original high school was destroyed by fire, but it was soon rebuilt and reopened, continuing its role as a cornerstone of education in the community.

As Kingman grew, a new campus, Kingman High School North, opened in 1993 for sophomores, juniors, and seniors, while freshmen attended the South campus. Eventually, the North campus became the main high school, and the South campus was converted to White Cliffs Middle School. Continued growth and overcrowding highlighted the need for a new, modern high school.

Construction of the current campus began in February 2010, and Lee Williams High School opened its doors in 2012 with a freshman-only class. By the 2015–2016 school year, it had become a full 9–12 high school, and the first class of Lee Williams graduates celebrated their achievements in May 2016.

Today, Lee Williams High School serves about 1000 students and offers a comprehensive education that emphasizes the 4 A’s: Academics, Arts, Athletics, and Activities. Students have access to innovative programs, including CTE pathways, the Cambridge Program, Summit Academy Early College, Dual Credit courses, and Flex Academy, ensuring every student has the opportunity to explore their passions, develop their skills, and prepare for lifelong success.

Principal's Message

HELLO LWHS VOLUNTEER FAMILIES,

Welcome to Lee Williams High School! Our school is built on a proud tradition of excellence, rooted in history, service, and community. At LWHS, we strive to provide an environment where every student can grow, lead, and succeed, living our motto, Be an 11, by taking initiative, making a positive impact, and embracing every opportunity to learn and contribute.

Our mission is simple yet powerful: to provide engaging experiences that equip students with the skills and confidence they need for a successful future. This mission is the foundation of everything we do and guides every decision we make as a school community. Our vision supports this mission: We model what it means to be a Volunteer by supporting the mission of the school, standing behind every student and staff member, encouraging each other, disagreeing professionally, and seeking to understand before being understood.

We live by our core values, which guide our actions and strengthen our community. Integrity means doing the right thing even when no one is watching. Being a Volunteer means contributing to something bigger than yourself, giving selflessly, going above and beyond, and supporting others. Leadership calls on us to be role models, set a positive example, and look out for those around us. We honor Tradition by respecting our community’s history and taking pride in its legacy. And through A11 In, we strive to create and participate in a community where everyone feels welcome, valued, and included.

The name “Volunteers” carries a profound legacy of courage and selflessness. It honors Richard Lee Williams, then principal of Kingman High School, and nine volunteer firefighters who lost their lives responding to a catastrophic propane tanker derailment in 1973. The Doxol propane tanker exploded, taking the lives of these brave individuals who risked everything to protect their community. Their heroism continues to inspire our students and staff to serve others, strive for excellence, and take pride in our school and community every day.

At LWHS, students can explore rigorous academics, including CTE pathways, Cambridge and Dual Enrollment courses, and flexible learning options through Flex Academy, alongside arts, athletics, clubs, and leadership opportunities. These experiences empower students to develop skills, build character, and discover their unique path to success.

Families are essential partners in this journey. We encourage you to stay connected through our Facebook and Instagram pages and to reach out with questions, ideas, or feedback. Together, we can ensure that every student at Lee Williams High School has the opportunity to thrive, lead, and ignite change. Go Vols!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Hannan

Principal
